Ontario Pork hosted a culinary adventure on Wednesday November 5th, 2014 for food writers and media. This event was a #porkalicious tour to remember. Twenty five foodies, farmers and everything in between were aboard the #porkbus destined for a night of surprise food locations!
Ontario Pork worked with Steven Hellmann from Foodies on Foot who did a fantastic job of finding locations that served up some mouth watering local pork creations. I could not have more positive things to say about Steven and Foodies on Foot, fantastic to work with, professional, fun and he knows good food!
On the #porkbus we went to 4 different locations and sampled pork from a total of seven different restaurants and establishments in the Toronto food scene using local Ontario pork. See where our adventure took us below:
To kick off the event, we served up some doughnuts on the party bus! The doughnuts were served up with some coffee and apple cider to give everyone a jolt of energy. Glory Hole Doughnuts sourced their pork from Sanagan’s Meat Locker in Kensington Market who buy from Perth Pork Products.
Branca Restaurant, a new Portuguese style restaurant featured platters of different cuts of pork. Fantastic food and atmosphere, as far as we know, this restaurant is the only place in North America cooking up suckling pig over an open fire. They get their local pork from Highland Packers Ltd. in Stoney Creek.
Thank you, thank you and thank you again to the restaurants and vendors listed above. They all offered such creative and innovative products featuring Ontario Pork.
Le Dolci, our pop up host might not bake with pork too often but her cute shop has some beautiful cakes and many tasty treats to check out.
Loka Snacks had a beautiful plate at this event and I got my first ever try of Crispy Pork Head. It will not be my last.
Rashers, your sandwiches are so good, I tell people all about your quirky shop and am sending them your way!
Stasis Preserves, there should be shops as committed to local as you are everywhere! Great original local products, many perfect for stocking stuffers and house warming gifts.
Also, a special shout out the No. 7 Hot Sauce, or “the hot sauce dealers” of the evening. I love hot sauce with my pork, and would recommend using their product to add a kick to your pulled pork.
The atmosphere in Fidel Gastro’s Restaurant, Lisa Marie was energizing and the food was fantastic. They served up Alabama Tailgaters and Porchetta Tostadas. Lisa Marie supports local agriculture and sources their Ontario pork products from Perth Pork Products.
Maple syrup done beautifully, and I don’t think our last stop could be more Canadian! If you are a maple lover you need to check out all of the delicious products Ninutik has to offer. The pork we sampled here came from Sublime Catering- and it was indeed!
